Does the world really need another power metal band? I guess not, since Circle II Circle broke up shortly after their first release over “business differences”. In any event, CIIC was the new project of ex-Savatage vocalist Zak Stevens, and their debut “Watching in Silence” is…well, it’s not exactly the most original debut of 2003, to put it that way.
By all means, if you dig power metal ballads leaning towards heavy rock two decades removed, then “Watching in Silence” is for you. Bombastic riffage, whiny solos and 80s hard rock vocals just fail to impress me these days I guess, especially when the monstrous concoction of the three all together runs for over ninety minutes on full blast. Still, if you think this sounds like your cup of tea then Circle II Circle’s debut is top notch and as good as it gets.
