Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is The Welkin just another zine?
A: Yes, but we hope that we’ll be able to distinguish ourselves from the thousands of other zines available in print and on the Internet with time and hard work. We want to listen to as much music as possible, and write as brilliantly as we can about the material. We want to publish reviews of new and old records alike, undiscovered demos, concerts and bring fresh interviews with interesting bands and artists from a wide variety of genres. Hopefully, these efforts in making the treasures and lumps of coal of the music industry available for scrutiny to our readers will be enough to make The Welkin more than “just another zine”.
Q: How is The Welkin funded?
A: Right now we’re taking a lot of money from the arms industry to keep the server running. With time though, we hope to be paying it all out of our own pockets.
Q: Is The Welkin looking for talented writers?
A: Always. Send a sample review or article to us and we’ll gladly consider bringing you onboard. You’ll be working for nothing (or promo records), though, so it’s all very charitable and nice. Still, just think of all the glitz and glamour of being a staff writer at a proper webzine…And it might just be the (no-editor-breathing-down-your-neck) experience you need to break into the real writing game of paid journalism.
Q: Will The Welkin ever sell out?
A: We are not planning to sell out in the near future. We will, however, accept promotional records from labels and bands for review. Link exchange deals and banner advertisement ideas are of interest since the entire site is funded by our own (often meager) means – get in touch and we’ll see if we can’t work something out.
