Sister Lightyear are signed on to the Stockholm-based label Trewetha records, and have written and recorded a relatively good, energetic, albeit somewhat standard rockband EP for their debut release. I mean, I stopped getting excited about this sort of thing somewhere around 1999, but the songs are all quite tight, catchy and so on even if they all sound a bit like the latest thing off NME’s front page.

While the EP consists of four tracks, only three of them are original songs, with a somewhat horrible dance remix of “Marty Parties Arty” making up the final track. According to Groove Magazine, “Sister Lightyear are so much more than just a rock band”, but I just can’t find myself agreeing with this statement. If there is anything this crew is then it is just that - a rock band, not much more, nothing less. They’re the kind of band you put on early on at a party, but hardly something you sit and ponder about into the dusky hours of a warm midsummer’s evening.
