“Resound” is a fine mix of futuristic, trippy sampling work and other tasty soundscape stuff, maintaining a clear direction with groovy melodies throughout. The work of one-man crew Ugress is spiced up by the lush vocals of Therese Vadem as well as various film dialogue samples where appropriate.
The album moves from just being plain groovy in tracks like “E-Pipe” and “Reason to Believe”, to slightly more metallic, chilling futuresounds in other tracks such as “Trigger 22″ and “Decepticons”. Ugress uses those strings just where it hurts, to give it the right dark vibe when and where needed.
The soundscape is surprisingly varied. “Falling” reminds me of something out of Sophie Ellis Bextor’s back catalogue, while other tracks are more reminiscent of Ulver’s “Perdition City” album. Actually I’m quite impressed by the efforts of Ugress, and find “Resound” to be a thoroughly pleasing disc to spin. It plays well as background soundtrack to more, uhh, nocturnal activities.
